All MPW event results

The television lights are on tonight for the Canadian National Wrestling Alliance cameras. And the card is stuffed with nine (!) matches of red hot action. With the aroma of tasty burgers and beef from the concessions grill wafting through the air, the fans are all salivating at getting the party started!
First off MPW Commissioner Nino calls down new MPW Majority Owner Massive Damage to address the crowd. Former owner Nelson Mayer last month sold a majority stake in the company to Massive Damage so that Massive could slide into the MPW Heavyweight Championship match (stipulated as ‘champ vs. owner’). Massive takes the mic and apologizes to the fans for losing the match last month. (It was a crazy match, take a moment to go link the results recap right now!) Massive also delivers some bad news: Nelson Mayer has been hospitalized with a heart episode. As if this wasn’t enough, the fans also learn that brother-in-arms Doug Furnas, longtime friend and 10-year tag partner of Phil Lafon across the world, has died, and thus Phil will not be present for tonight’s event.
Massive makes sure the crowd knows that tonight will be an amped, charged night, with every wrestler giving their best in honour of fallen comrades. And in order for him to focus on giving his all in the ring, he feels he has to give up the responsibilities of running a company. Massive puts Nino in charge of everything as executive officer, pending Nelson’s successful recovery and return.
Nino’s first duty as interim XO is to introduce his commentary partner for the show: CNWA Commissioner P.J. Laws. P.J. has been very busy coordinating the wildfire revival of the CNWA, and he announces that tonight will decide an ultimate challenger for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship currently held by international superstar Adam Pearce. Also tonight P.J. will be scouting the cruiserweights on the MPW roster for entry into a future CNWA Cruiserweight Division, so everyone had better be on top of their game!
MPW Provincial Division exhibition: Chris Perish v Krazy Kore
And now the first game is getting started! The zeitgeist of feist, Chris Perish, strolls arrogantly to the ring, shrugging off a cascade of boos and insults from the fans. The fans swing their moods to cheers as Krazy Kore runs into the ring. Kore’s got the heavyweight chops and the tesla coil energy that’s so infectious with the fans. Krazy plays to his strengths in the early lockups, overwhelming Perish on a couple skirmishes, but Perish’s cunning is enough to find the right escapes at the right times and Krazy can’t convert into a solid pin. Perish finds the opportunity to counter a misstep and Chris brings the true Perish Perception beatdown to his opponent. A nasty dropkick from Perish perfectly timed leaves a big welt down the left side of Kore’s face, from hairline to jawbone. Wow, the scrape seems to have clicked something primal inside Kore, and he’s starting to stand up to Perish’s barrage! The crowd is loving this. Perish tries to back off but there’s no where he can go before Kore catches him with clotheslines, elbows and slams. Perish is reeling as KK gathers up for a big samoan drop, but Perish has the presence of mind to overbalance Krazy into a rollup pin. Ugh, Chris yanks on Kore’s knickers away from the ref and the crowd can’t get the ref’s attention on it before the three is counted.
Winner: Chris Perish
Next up is the blood feud between former tag partners Nite, (the MPW Provincial Champion) and Tyler James. Last month Nite had to defend his belt in a triple threat against James and #1 Contender Taylor Stone, and paid for it when James and Stone double-suplexed Nite through an illegal table. Nite got to keep the belt on the DQ call, but he’s still tasked by MPW management to defend his title. Taylor Stone has agreed to step aside and let TJ try to settle his scores with Nite first. With the CNWA Commish behind the anchor desk, the pressure on both to impress is growing.
MPW Provincial Championship: Nite (champion) w/Chris Perish v Tyler James (challenger)
Rising to the pressure, Nite is super aggressive right from the start. When TJ enters the ring and hops up on the corner turnbuckle to welcome the fans, Nite grabs the kendo stick from ringside bodyguard Chris Perish and cracks it across TJ’s back. The ref hurries to call for the bell to ring but Nite tosses aside the stick before he can be officially disqualified. TJ has a weight and reach advantage, but Nite’s well versed in TJ’s style and has no qualms dishing pain out on TJ’s vulnerable joints and nerves. The Wild Child takes a blitz from Nite but turns it around on a nice floatover ddt off the ropes. James’ eyes are looking a bit scary as he starts throwing Nite around like a rag doll. A lot of pent-up frustration over broken friendships and betrayed bonds is being let out tonight. Nite keeps coming back for more though. And as brutally ugly the match is becoming, the two rivals are (breaking) neck and neck, until Nite has had enough and pulls up the kendo stick again and whips it down over Tyler’s back. The ref throws out the match, allowing Nite to keep his belt once again.
Winner: Nite
TJ swipes the mic from Nino and yells that he’s had it with Nite. TJ’s wants one final rematch where he’ll make sure Nite takes everything coming to him. Nite takes the mic and agrees, with conditions. Next show, at one corner, he’ll put his belt on a pole. At the opposite corner, he’ll put a kendo stick on another pole. Whoever gets something from a pole wins the match. If they get the belt, they win the title. If they get the stick, they’re guaranteed 10 lashes across the back of the opponent. Nite is betting TJ will pick the stick. But Nite claims he’ll use the stick to carve his name in TJ’s back so that all hell will know who sent the Wild Child there.
Wow, that sounds like a sick and twisted match. I must see!
The following match is part of the CNWA tournament to find the ultimate challenger for the NWA world title. The early round brackets have played out at recent CNWA stops and tonight we have a semifinal match between Kenny Doll and Massive Damage. MPW fans have seen enough of Kenny Doll to know his preoccupation with his silver spoon status gets in the way of maximizing his in-ring talents. Massive Damage in his prime should completely bowl over this guy, but after a spirit-breaking loss to Mark Posey last month, the tragic circumstances to good friends Phil Lafon, Sonic Insania, and Nelson Mayer, and all the stress of being the owner of a chaotic company, there are questions on his current ability he has to answer. Especially if he wants the title shot.
CNWA World Heavyweight Challengers Tournament semifinal: Kenny Doll v Massive Damage
From the opening bell, Massive is looking every bit the spurred bull, busting on bronco Kenny around the ring with chops and tackles. Kenny, maybe out of desperation, scores on a counter neckbreaker and Massive’s momentum stops dead. Obviously still a tender spot and Kenny presses the advantage with a solid stretch of offense. I guess the man from Paradise is starting to understand the vibe you need to survive in MPW. Massive’s still the terminator though, and when Kenny can’t resist taking a moment to self-admire his ‘awesomeness’, Massive’s there to stuff him with suplexes and slams. A terminator spear seals the deal and with the victory Massive Damage is in the tournament finals, later tonight!
Winner: Massive Damage
Looks like Taylor Stone is getting a sweet opportunity tonight against CNWA heavyweight hotshot KC Andrews. Taylor has been a rising star in the MPW Provincial Division, but friend Tyler James asked for a clear revenge path against division champ Nite, and a foothold very much in the thick of the CNWA scene could be a lucrative tradeoff. *If* he can get the pin against K.C. Andrews. The braggart’s been throwing around the internet as if he’s the next blue chip CNWA champion. I don’t like this man’s style, but his defeat of Matt XStatic at last month’s show to extend his recent CNWA hot streak is certainly showing him off as a formidable opponent. I believe in Stone though, he’s got the hunger to get there.
MPW Provincial Division exhibition: K.C. Andrews v Taylor Stone
K.C. has a bit of a shocked look on his face. Laughing at the man in the opposite corner as if anyone could truly believe Stone’s in the same class. The crowd is laughing at the stripes of silver across Andrews’ black singlet. “Duct Tape! Duct Tape!” goes the chant and K.C.’s mood enjoyably turns to deep frustration. Stone takes the moment of distraction as an opening and energizes out a storm of holds and counterbalances to which K.C. can barely keep level. Quick pins from a variety of angles start getting more and more out of the count and K.C. finally beats it out of the ring and starts walking to the back as if he’s had it with this ‘amateur production’. The crowd taunts get louder, Stone’s smile gets wider, and the ref’s countout calls get closer to the end, and Andrews grudgingly turns around and returns through the ropes.
But K.C. isn’t waiting to react to any more silly stuff. Hulk get angry! Stone not like hulk angry! Taylor throws in sweet flying kicks but K.C. hulks through it, absorbing the damage to ensure a tradeoff heavy punch that staggers Stone. Power offense is Andrews game, as long as his adrenaline lasts. Big slams and suplexes with a dirty brawl technique. Stone is far from out, getting in some counter clotheslines and flying elbow, but K.C. is ensuring he’s ready to give equal pain for everything he gets from Stone. Very few men can execute this tactic, and fewer succeed with it and keep a healthy career, so when Andrews breaks through with his sunset driver finisher for a clean 3 count, I have to show the man respect for earning this win. This match may not have turned out to be the reputation-establishing match Taylor wanted, but if he studies how the match went down, there’s a lot he can learn from it. And from the crowd applause as Stone strumbles to the back, this loss does not diminish his star in their eyes.
Winner: K.C. Andrews
And now it’s time for our pre-halftime main event! At last month’s show, the tag team champs, fan favourites Phil Lafon & Sonic Insania, suffered a brutalizing from the jealous heathens of Greatness on Demand. Mark Posey handcuffed Phil to the corner post and Sonic Insania was left alone to the lawlessness and mercilessness of Vance Nevada and the Irishman until Bobby Sharp and Jack Hammer could make the save.
For tonight’s show Sonic’s here, but is medically prohibited from competing tonight. Phil Lafon is not here tonight, mourning the death of brother-in-arms Doug Furnas. This leaves the tag team belts in disarray, but Nino has made the call and Mark Posey and Vance Nevada will have to answer to the tag team of Bobby Sharp and Jack Hammer.
Of the two good guys, I imagine Posey and Vance are looking to keep Bobby in the ring as much as possible. Bobby is a serious vet threat, but Posey knows firsthand how much of a mountain Jack is to move, and his piledriver is as deadly as they come. Bobby has only had two mid-tier matches on his new MPW boots, and is still a middling bet to have some easily-exploitable areas in his game.
MPW Tag Team Division exhibition: Mark Posey & Vance Nevada v Jack Hammer & Bobby Sharp
Bobby’s game is all about fearlessness though, and wastes no time getting ‘Mr. Intensity’ acquainted with it. Sharp’s assaults from high angles pays tribute to the neck-braced Sonic sitting at ringside. While Hammer’s clubbing blows quickly chase Vance and Mark through the ropes for a quick sidebar.
Far from slouching though, Nevada has the goods and Posey the attention to details to make their opponents feel pain, they just need that one opening and a cheap poke on Bobby starts the ball rolling in the villains’ favour. Headbutts and kneedrops keep their prey matted, and headgames and kneecaps keep the ref out of position and tag relief far out of reach. Bobby and Jack are suffering, but absorbing the assault pretty well all told. Even getting in some counter shots here and there, far more than Vance and Mark are obviously comfortable with. The crowd is sensing it too and it looks like the G.o.D. cronies are cracking a bit under all the extra-pointed jeers being thrown their way.
Wow! The villains make a mistake and let Sharp get away from them to call in the Hammer! This time though Mark and Vance stand their ground to keep Jack at a disadvantage in number. But it’s only a matter of seconds before Bobby can get some oxygen back into those muscles and jump back in the fray. Hammer takes a few on the chin, but nowhere near enough damage to put a Canadian soldier down. Now all four guys are in on the action and the ref can’t get them apart! There goes the bell. No contest is the ruling. Should’ve known G.o.D. would rather sabotage the match than wrestle a fair one.
Result: No contest (double dq)
The action has been glorious tonight. And there’s still another full episode’s worth to hit me in the face, but that’ll have to wait until after I get my traditional intermission beef on a bun from the lovely concessionettes.
With my belly happy I’m ready to tackle the next match. A tense standoff between the demented demon that is Mutato and the young rising star in the provincial division, Taylor Stone. Stone had a tough match earlier against K.C. Andrews, but Stone’s not resting pat, determined to drive for some revenge himself against someone who has taken part in a handful of dirty tactics and illegal ambushes on Stone’s campaigns last year.
MPW Provincial Division exhibition: Mutato v Taylor Stone
Taylor’s got the superior agility and technical expertise and shows it early. Mutato’s keeping a solid base that makes it hard to shove him around, but also makes him way too slow to find a counter move to get a clear advantage. Stone’s frustration at his slow progress gets him to drop his guard for a second, and Mutato breaks through to start his power game of bearhugs and slams. A tight belly-to-belly suplex gets Mutato a close two count, but Stone still has some life in him. Ducking a clothesline gives Stone an opportunity to slingshot off the ropes for a surprise return clothesline, and a calf lariat stuns the brute for a close two count. Followup flying knees into Mutato in the corner gets the crowd pumped for an impending victory, but Stone goes to the well once too often and Mutato shortcuts the distance to catch Taylor in a sky high sitout bomb. With a howl to the moon Mutato drags Stone’s twitchy body near to the corner, and a second turnbuckle demon splash seals Stone’s fate (well, that and a pin leverage assist from the ropes where the ref can’t see it).
Winner: Mutato
Nino steps up with Mutato for a quick interview, but Mutato can’t do much but grunt out some guttural sounds, and pick out what might be a flea from what I thought was Nino’s healthy curly locks. Ew, Mutato ate whatever that was. Nino insists as someone of Italian heritage, his hair is in pristine condition.
I’ve been waiting almost six months for this next match. The return of “Future Legend” Kyle Sebastian to MPW has got the crowd (and especially the ladies) excited! Kyle has recovered from a serious knee injury knocked him out of action right when he was rolling as the MPW tag champion with Tyler James. Tonight his opponent is the braggart K.C. Andrews, still looking loose after his gutshooting win over Taylor Stone.
MPW Heavyweight Division exhibition: K.C. Andrews v Kyle Sebastian
This contest is playing out pretty even, with Kyle’s agility and technique going toe-to-toe with K.C.’s brawler melee and bully matwork. When Andrews dodges a Sebastian corner splash and follows up with a ropeslung dropkick square to Sebastian’s face, the future legend starts wobbling noticeably. K.C. keeps up the pressure but Kyle’s still got the fighting spirit to slide through a slam attempt and counter with a flurry of clotheslines and backdrops. A risky running hop to the second turnbuckle was a foolish tactic, as Kyle’s ricochet twisting body press attempt missed by a mile and crashed hard. Andrews turns around the offence swiftly from there and all too soon a big sunset driver leaves the front row girls stifling back tears from Kyle’s defeat. Fear not ladies, Kyle’s not far away from his full Bieber-liciousness, so stay tuned for his upcoming matches.
Winner: K.C. Andrews
Back to the finals of the CNWA tournament for the next match. Finalist Vance Nevada struts to the ring, wearing a shirt with big ‘HE’S HERE’ lettering. Vance has a long string of notches on his double-decade-long career, but nothing quite on the level of the NWA World Heavyweight Championship and there’s something extra fiery glimmering behind his angry eyes now. But don’t take for granted the fire in the Tattoed Terminator’s belly either.
CNWA World Heavyweight Challengers Tournament final: Vance Nevada v Massive Damage
Massive starts off with some big chops and hot offense, but Vance pulls himself out of the corner on a spear attempt and Massive crunches his shoulder into the steel post. ‘Mr. Beefy Goodness’ unveils a very meticulous and precise assault, keeping Massive on the mat and further straining the tendons in the shoulder to their ripping point. Vance leaves the mat up the turnbuckle for a flying double axe, but Massive pulls himself up for a desperate gutshot. Some one-armed clotheslines staggers Nevada, but with his injured shoulder, Massive can’t get a power suplex over the hump. Vance brilliantly converts the moment into a backward roll small package, and the execution is perfect. Massive is locked in very very tight and the three count goes by before he can wriggle out enough escape room.
Winner: Vance Nevada
‘Mr. Beefy Goodness’ Vance Nevada earns the prize tonight and is just one win away from becoming NWA World Heavyweight champion, March 23rd in Red Deer.
It’s been a long exciting night here in Edmonton. And now it’s time for the penultimate event: MPW Heavyweight Champion, ‘Mr. Intensity’ Mark Posey versus the ‘Lion Warrior’ Bobby Sharp. Man to man. Just the way the fans want it.
MPW Heavyweight Championship: Mark Posey (champion) v Bobby Sharp (challenger)
Posey is looking a bit aggravated at having to deal with some kid who ‘doesn’t know his place’ in the MPW pecking order. In the early going both men can’t get a hold on without the other slipping out via a deft escape. The crowd is loud and on Posey’s case, drawing Posey out to the apron to shout them down, and Sharp leverages the arm over the ropes to take the lead in the match. The warrior keeps the pressure on the elbow through a gauntlet of holds and stretches, and when intensity tries to catch a breather by rolling out to the floor, Sharp pulls off a slingshot Lion’s Prey to stay firmly in the lead.
Bobby takes his time to prop up Mark’s crumpled body against the turnbuckle. But he took too much time and Mark raised a wily knee to ambush Sharp’s corner splash attempt. Just the moment of inertia Posey was looking for to start his targeted and deliberate assault. With the crowd begging for Bobby to get up, Posey seems to take extra delight in cutting down the hotshot at every baited opening. Posey grabs a scruff of Sharp hair and heaves the lion over the top rope, but Bobby grasps the binding on his way over and with a big show of strength skins the cat right back in. Only to get nailed with a vicious clothesline that sends him flying right back over to the hard unyielding floor. Bobby struggles back into the ring to beat the ref’s 10 count.
A punch to the temple might just have been one shot too many, and Sharp enrages with a lion’s roar. Back and forth with the brawling punches and chops and uppercuts. Each man wrings out some stagger from the other. The grudge moves to a display of impacts, with back and forth dropkicks, slams and suplexes. Mark’s had enough and takes an opening to lock in a cobra clutch sleeper, and Bobby quickly judo throws Mark away before any lasting damage can sink in. Sharp lands a reverse drop facebuster, then climbs the corner for a top turnbuckle Lion’s Prey, but Posey shimmies himself away to ringside. Sharp hops down and sprints across the ring for a running Lion’s Prey through the ropes. Now both men are in a turmoil row through the fans and the ref is counting again. Posey drops Sharp but Sharp grabs a leg before Posey can get back in the ring. The ref gets to 10 and the match is thrown out.
Result: No contest (double out-of-ring countout)
The fans are hating this and a few are throwing some debris into the ring. (Not cool guys, though I feel the rage too.) The Lion Warrior is far from done with Mr. Intensity however. The ruckus spills back into the ring and the ref has to call to the back for some help. The *entire* roster rushes down to ringside and after a tense scrum of humanity for 20 seconds, the two nuclear powers are slowly shoved into opposite corners. Once the defcon rating finally drops to a manageable level, Nino and P.J. bring the microphone in to gauge the fallout, the crowd learns that Posey and Sharp are going to push this fight to the next level next month.
Next month is starting to look really intense, with Greatness on Demand looking to be *this* close to universal supremacy. What can the heroes do? Stone has to find a way back into contention. James has to decide between breaking Nite and belting some gold. Lafon and Insania have to find some way to beat back the vultures circling their tag carcass. And Sharp’s right at ground zero of the G.o.D. bomb. Get those butts in those seats to watch everything go all-in at High Stakes, April 7th at the Ave!
