Welcome to the monster pit once again wrestling fans! There’s a special energy in the crowd tonight, a thick expectation of the epic.
MPW management plugged into that energy early. Commissioner Nino and Owner Nelson Mayer warmly welcomed the crowd, crew, and sponsors, and spread heartfelt and humble thanks for their support.
Tag Team champ Tyler James was called to the ring to offer much love and tribute to fallen MPW comrade Trevor Grimolfson, and to all the fallen friends and family of 2011. A 10 bell salute with the entire roster around the ring was a poignant moment. Every wrestler has a clear perspective of what’s on the line. Tonight, nothing is left in reserve, everything gets slammed onto the mat.
Tyler James has a big test right off the bat. His MPW Tag Team Champion partner, Kyle Sebastian, is out with an injury, but the wild child is not backing down. At Autumn Falls in October, Phil Lafon earned a #1 contender shot set for tonight and TJ is going to honour Phil and his partner, Sonic Insania, even if TJ has to go it alone. Of course if there are belts on the line, Greatness on Demand and the Morningstar Mercenaries just have to horn in. So TJ and Phil and Sonic have to deal with a Fatal Fourway against Insane Irishman/Bonecrusher (of G.o.D.) and Chris Perish/Mutato (of the Mercs) for the strap.
MPW Tag Team Championship; Fatal Fourway; “Wild Child” Tyler James (handicap, champion) v Phil Lafon & Sonic Insania (#1 Contenders) v Chris Perish & Mutato (of Morningstar Mercenaries) v Insane Irishman & Bonecrusher (of Greatness on Demand)
The three challenger teams get in the ring wary of each other. Then when the champ walks down the event aisle, the snaky voodoo man Nite ambushes TJ with a kendo stick shot. A ‘friendly’ reminder of tonight’s hardcore main event to feature both TJ and Nite.
Nite wheels TJ rudely into the ring, and a big tackle sandwich between the 500+ pounds of Irishman and Bonecrusher leaves James hurting bad. It’s looking like TJ let his ego get out of control, and now the odds are astronomical against him.
Irishman follows up with a barrage of body blows and clotheslines, but James has worked too hard for tonight to give up a cheap pinfall. The G.o.D.ly pair set up a double team in the corner, but Tyler triggers a storm of stiff elbows to power out, then keeps on the pressure staggering Irishman across the ring into Phil Lafon’s corner. Irish forces a savvy tag to Phil and gets out of the way. To TJ’s credit, he doesn’t hesitate to get on Phil the instant Phil’s through the ropes, but the veteran has worked a harder and longer career than anyone around, and he knows how to reverse a TJ misstep into a devastating double underhook powerbomb. An easy three count and the champion is eliminated.
Mutato blasts into the ring before Phil can get up. The demon of rage unleashing his hellbrand fists upon the legend. Lafon’s got the best developed body on the roster, and weathers the firestorm until Mutato switches into a loose arm bar. Phil makes another reversal look easy, and now Mutato is flat on the canvas, and for good measure, Phil cheap shots Chris Perish and Bonecrusher and Irishman down to the floor before tagging his ward and partner Sonic Insania.
The kid’s gotta rocket launcher in him cause he’s sky high off the top turnbuckle for an Insania Moonsault. But the splashdown is a hard crash – Perish recovered in time to shout his instructions and Mutato instinctively rolled out of the landing zone.Chris Perish has his team finely tuned tonight. Sonic doesn’t get an inch of slack to recover. The assault of the Mercenaries is brutal and it’s not long before the lightweight is convulsing in agony. An awesome doubleteam starting with a spine-ripping over-Mutato’s-knee backbreaker and finishing with a Perish top turnbuckle leg drop has Insania knocked out, but his mentor makes the efficient save before the ref can finish the count. Perish ups the ante by playing Lafon and the ref off of each other while Mutato, Bonecrusher and the Insane Irishman hit the bruised kid with some triple teaming. With Sonic vulnerable and on fumes, Chris takes a moment to bask in his victory, then slowly pulls Sonic into a reverse underhook clutch, and lifts the kid high into the air. But obviously Sonic takes to heights like a fighter jet, and an instinctive twist overbalances Chris and lets Sonic land on his feet. A leverage shove throws Perish into a killer superpunch from Phil and back into Sonic for a deft rollup pin. Just like that, Perish and Mutato are eliminated and the crowd goes wild!
Unfortunately, Sonic’s on the verge of collapse when the heavyweights start in on him. Another sandwich tackle and Sonic is down. But it doesn’t look like Greatness on Demand is in the mood to let him off so easily with a pin now. Bonecrusher easily lifts the kid and parades his limp body around the ring several times before finishing a big body slam. Irishman flings the lightweight into the ropes for a ricochet power slam. That’s gotta be some cracked ribs there. Bonecrusher lifts Sonic into a choking hangman. Irishman makes a flapjack slam look like child’s play. Sonic is dead meat now. Phil Lafon’s sense of timing for breaking up pins is the only tactic they have now, and it’s only a matter of time before the ref stops that for good.
One more time the behemoths set up for a tackle sandwich. Only this time, Sonic leans out to the side just enough for the bad guys to collide into each other more than into Sonic. Phil stretches his arm out for the tag and Sonic finds the guts to lunge for it! Phil’s vengeance is incredible! Precision lariats and superkicks followed up with sheer power bodyslams on all 500 pounds of his opponents. A dirty noggin-knockin makes the room spin for Bonecrusher and Irishman. A beautiful team play with Phil gorilla-pressing Sonic into a high-arc splash onto a reeling Bonecrusher is the cherry on top of the MPW Tag Team Championship victory!
Winner: Phil Lafon & Sonic Insania; Phil Lafon & Sonic Insania awarded MPW Tag Team Championship
Phil heaves Sonic up on his shoulders in joy, and the crowd is ecstatic with them. What an incredible match to start R.I.P.Tribution! Let’s keep it going with a match I’ve personally been looking forward to for a long time…
Last year at R.I.P.Tribution III, rookie Taylor Stone shocked everyone and took MPW Heavyweight Champion Mark Posey to the limit. Ever since then, Chris Perish and the Morningstar Mercenaries have been pulling every ambush trick in the book to keep Taylor out of commission. It seems Nite and the Mercs have been worried about Stone coming after their MPW Provincial Championship. But I have to admit, they’ve managed to shift Stone’s focus off the belt and squarely on Chris Perish. I’m guessing Nite would prefer to lose Chris than the gold if he had to choose.
MPW Provincial Division Exhibition; Submission No Disqualification; Chris Perish v Taylor Stone
Chris Perish returns to the ring with Mutato in tow. Perish must be a bit down after he failed to prevail for the tag belts, and the crowd is absolutely letting him have it. He begs off a few lockups early against Taylor Stone, but Stone lets him get away with it. Taylor seems extra pumped by the fan service. I think he better start concentrating on the match in front of him. Perish and Stone finally get a lockup on. Both sure look ready to tear apart the joints and ligaments of the other.
The match up is looking a lot closer than I expected. Stone is fresher, but lackey Mutato is at arm’s length to catch up Perish’s slack. The rage between them, built up from reckless warring throughout the year, is blasting into the crowd with every strike and wrench.
Guillotines, cloverleafs, sleepers, arm breakers, crossfaces, and a number of get-the-damn-job-done naked chokes would cripple ordinary people but these wrestlers are showing impressive endurance and a bit of Houdini skill at escapes. Stone finally corners Perish with a cattle mutilation and Mutato has to break it up. A blatant double team forces Taylor into a brutal Perishute, but the ref’s had it and throws Mutato out of the ring area. Perish argues with the ref too much, and Stone recovers just enough muscle memory to land a surprise faithbreaker into a signature 21st Century Cure and Perish doesn’t have the strength (or his minion) to resist long. Taylor Stone gets the victory!
Winner: Taylor Stone
The fans are loving the win streak of the heroes, but next up is the Money in the Bank Battle Royal, and it’s heavily weighted to the villains. Six of them, led by Vance Nevada, Insane Irishman, and Bonecrusher of Greatness on Demand, are determined to own the ring and not let Sonic Insania, Taylor Stone, or anyone else give the fans a third straight celebration.
MPW Battle Royal; Money in the Bank; Vance Nevada, Insane Irishman, Spooky Bonanza, Chris Perish, Taylor Stone, Krazy Kore, Bonecrusher, Mutato, Sonic Insania, Wiseman Pierce
Spooky Bonanza freaks out when the bell rings, and in turn the mob has to pound him down and throw him out. Taylor Stone and Sonic Insania watch each other’s backs as much as they can, but are severely outnumbered. Sonic is able to clutch onto the top rope as he gets thrown, and Bonecrusher can’t stop his own momentum under Sonic’s leverage. Bonecrusher is out, Sonic is still in. Stone is able to fend off a double team from Irishman and Wiseman and with a quick blindside assist from Sonic, Wiseman gets launched out. Stone and Sonic are working well together against a gang of four, but eventually Sonic succumbs to a high-arc Chris Perish throw to the floor. Perish’s joy at his win distracts him long enough for Stone to dump him out right behind. Vance Nevada and Insane Irishman are conferring in one corner while Krazy Kore gets a lucky shot on Mutato and the demented demon is out.
The final four comes down to Vance and Irishman versus Stone and newcomer brick Krazy Kore. KK’s shown some impressive poise to last this long, and he and Stone are working together well, but Vance and Irishman are razor sharp ready tonight and deftly separate out Kore for elimination. The fans hopes for a Taylor double victory tonight are falling fast. The G.o.D. double team is inescapable, but they seem more interested in toying and humiliating Stone than actually facing each other for the final Money in the Bank prize. A perfectly timed reversal by Stone has Irishman flying over the ropes by his own momentum. And all that’s left is a Vance vs. Stone rematch for the unlimited contract.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Vance planned it this way, as he easily exerts a steady control versus Stone that he would likely not have against Irishman. Still, Stone isn’t going away, and with the force of the crowd on his side, he blocks several attempts at being thrown out. Stone corners Nevada and mounts for the 10 count punch rush, but Vance finds the leverage to hoist the kid over and out. But Stone twists and lands on the apron. Vance’s presumptuous victory pose gives Stone all he needs to mount a furious comeback, until Nevada takes a trick from Stone’s book. A perfectly timed reversal has Stone flying over the ropes from his own momentum. Greatness on Demand collects into the ring for a big group hug and the fans are booing, but I must admit it was a masterful match plan from “Mr. Beefy Goodness”.
Winner: “Mr. Beefy Goodness” Vance Nevada. Vance Nevada awarded Money in the Bank contract.
Senior Referee Kevin Laurin brings the 15-foot steel chain to the ring for the Heavyweight Championship match. Challenger Jack Hammer is loving the chain and eagerly clinches in the noose at one end around his neck. Champion Mark Posey doesn’t take a single glance at the chain. Whenever the ref brings the chain collar near Posey, Posey strolls away. I’m a big fan of Jack Hammer, but I sure wouldn’t want to be chained up to that monster either.
MPW Heavyweight Championship; Four Corners Collar-and-Chain; “Mr. Intensity” Mark Posey (champion) v Jack Hammer (challenger)
Mark Posey has fought long, hard, and dirty to keep his grubby hands on his shiny strap in 2011, and I can’t see him chancing Nino stripping him over refusing to wrestle. He chains up. Hammer immediately overpowers Posey, and ‘Mr. Intensity’ intensely slips out of the ring for a breather. Hammer and the crowd share a smile and Hammer pulls the champion in by the choker. The leash is cutting off Posey’s regular float-and-sting game, and Hammer’s power blitz style is getting through far too easily.
Unfortunately, victory here will not be a three count, but instead one must touch the four corner posts in sequence. Mark Posey might be hurt, but he can summon quick bursts of energy if given a few seconds, and Hammer is a sloth from post to post. Posey gathers up the angle of most damage every time Hammer reaches his third post, and the momentum swings to Posey. By the same token, Hammer refills his tank before Posey can get far past the third post, and yanks the advantage right back.
The tides flow back and forth along the chain. “Mr. Intensity” whips a length of the chain across Hammer’s back. But when Mark too-casually steps over the chain Jack yanks it up, hard. A queasyingly-ugly knee drop onto balled-up chain on top of Hammer’s face busts Hammer open.
But not too long after Hammer lands a brutal piledriver onto the chain and Posey’s handsome mug is also awash in red blood. Vance Nevada bounds down to ringside and accosts the ref so he can’t count Hammer’s corners, and Posey pulls out the brass knuckles. One shot to the open wound rattles Hammer’s brain and he’s a goner. Posey stumbles to all corners and the belt returns home, hand delivered by a smiling Nevada.
Winner: “Mr. Intensity” Mark Posey; Mark Posey retains MPW Heavyweight Championship
The fans’ scoresheet now reads 2 for (Phil and Sonic, Taylor Stone) and 2 against (Vance Nevada, Mark Posey) with one match to go. THE match. The R.I.P.TRIBUTION III rematch. The “Ripper” Hardcore Championship match. The Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match. The Triple Threat match. Massive Damage. Nite. Tyler James. For all the glory, and all the immortality. This match is MPW. Pro wrestling the way it should be.
MPW “Ripper” Hardcore Championship; Tables, Ladders, and Chairs Triple Threat; Nite v Massive Damage v Tyler James
Nite is unimpressed by either of his opponents, and gets in TJ’s face before the bell. Wheeling around to tell off Massive next, Nite gets a swift “Wild Child” kick through his uprights and the game is on! Slams through tables, bulldogs from laddertops, piledrivers into chairs, (and some face rakes against ringside fences)… trust me: buy the dvd, the blood and guts on display simply cannot be done justice here. Just take a look:

The medical insurance bill must have been pretty steep for MPW management. Sexy Samantha jumped in the ring to save her man Massive Damage from taking a chair sandwich to the head, but Nite dodged Massive’s retaliation spear and Massive and Sam crashed through a corner table and out of the ropes. Then TJ leapt in to whip Nite into the opposite corner, where Nite slammed into the ref and then both crashed through another table. Nite’s final lesson came: a reverse of a Massive Damage double suplex off the ladder onto two tables. With both valiant warriors broken, and a replacement ref crashing the ring, Nite got the (double) three count and now carries golden bookends of the MPW Provincial and “Ripper” Hardcore titles.

Winner: Nite; Nite awarded MPW “Ripper” Hardcore Championship
The final scorecard might be 2 for versus 3 against, but when the fans ‘lose’ like this, really they win. This show was a celebration of the paths walked and people befriended every step of the way leading to tonight.
But next show will be the beginning of the future. MPW management has announced that the next show, December 3rd, will be taped as part of a television pilot! Can Taylor Stone’s star keep its rise to the top? Can Mark Posey hold his title reign for another year? And can anyone stop Nite now? Stay tuned right here and we’ll give you all the answers as soon as we get them.
