MPW Presents: FUSION
by Johnny W. – Saturday, February 5, 2011
MPW Owner Nelson Mayer welcomes the fans by introducing new MPW Promoter Canine Valentine. However, Greatness On Demand interrupt the proceedings with an announcement of their own. Tired of Massive Damage’s campaign to beg a title shot against fresh-off-of-asia-tour Mark Posey, G.O.D. offers a compromise: Posey will freely offer a title shot to the MPW roster at large, by selecting one of their names at random from a hat.
Nelson takes charge, insisting he’ll take the hat and pick the name. Amidst the fan cries for Massive Damage’s name, Nelson picks out… Diablo!
MPW Heavyweight Championship
Mark Posey (c) vs. Diablo
Diablo blazes into the ring obviously fired up. A flurry of moves before Posey could even take off his shirt leave the champ reeling, until a rash climb up the turnbuckle lets Posey catch Diablo and viciously drop his neck over the ropes. Posey takes command until he too misjudges the right time to climb the turnbuckle, with Diablo rolling out of the way of a flying elbow at the last second. In the last desperate minutes of the match, Posey found the presence of mind to duck Diablo’s poison spray and reverse Diablo into a half nelson sleeper. With all Posey’s weight advantage on Diablo’s fatigued frame, there was no escape.
Official match result: Mark Posey walkover (Referee declared Diablo unfit to continue); Mark Posey retains MPW Heavyweight Championship
Massive hits the ring to get Posey to release the hold, and picks up the hat with the MPW roster names. Every slip had the name Diablo! Nelson vengefully books a new match for later in the night: Massive Damage vs. the current #1 contender for the heavyweight championship, G.O.D.’s Vance Nevada.
Taylor Stone vs. Bonecrusher
Slight delay to the match while security broomed up the poison residue and the spilled slips of paper from the ring canvas. 300+ pound Bonecrusher is a load to move at the best of times, but Taylor’s stone-cold will and intense moves led him to withstand some brutal crunches, slowly wearing down Bonecrusher’s endurance and defenses. Locking in a single-leg crab, Taylor looked to be seconds from a tapout but the ref got too close and ‘Crusher clobbered him, all behind Taylor’s back. With the ref out of it, tapping furiously got Stone to release the hold, and in the confusion Bonecrusher put together a surprise bullrush splash followed by a bonecrush bomb for a three count.
Official match result: Bonecrusher def. Taylor Stone via pinfall
Phil Lafon vs. Kyle Sebastian
Phil yanked the mic away to rant about the lack of respect he’s lately been getting in MPW. And when security got in the ring to again sweep up the canvas, the hall-of-famer snapped, mopping up the security guys with a series of rough suplexes. Kelowna kid Kyle Sebastian weighs in on what respect the bully really deserves and the match is on! Incredible rage from Phil knocks Kyle from pillar to post until Phil pushes the ref one time too far. When the ref pushed back, Kyle was right there to turn a shocked and off-balance Phil into a compact pin. A quick three from the ref and the legend is left in the ring in denial and disbelief.
Official match result: Kyle Sebastian def. Phil Lafon via pinfall
Raven Lake vs. “Sexy” Samantha Slides
These ladies have been feuding for months and both were fired up from the start to finally settle the score. Samantha ducks a clothesline to get a quick advantage, then Raven puts the brakes on a back body drop to swing momentum her way. Both women get tossed across the ring by their hair. With these evenly-matched wrestlers the moves come hot and heavy right down to the wire. A last-second ambush by “Vicious and Delicious” Melisha lays Samantha out on the canvas and Raven Lake gets the opportunistic pin.
Official match result: Raven Lake def. Samantha Slides via pinfall
#1 Contender match, MPW Provincial Championship
Kasaki vs. Jack Hammer
The child emperor of Japanada unleashed a monsoon of wit and wrestling to start the match, and Hammer found himself constantly a step behind. By the time Hammer found an opening to catch Kasaki in a belly-to-belly suplex, the crowd had firmly entrenched themselves in Kasaki’s corner. Still reeling from the early match beatings, and confused by the lack of his customary fan support, Hammer struggled to convert his fragile upper hand into enough damage, and couldn’t maneuver a pin that would stick. Despite pushing Hammer off his game, Kasaki too was having a tough time fending off Hammer’s still-potent offense. Unfortunately, neither man had the presence of mind to note the arrival of MPW Provincial champion Nite to ringside, steel chair in hand. Two swift blows and the referee had no choice but to declare the match a “no contest”. The cocky Nite then taunted the crowd, pointing out that the match result consequentially leaves MPW without a future contender for his shiny belt.
Official match result: No Contest (Referee declared both competitors unfit to continue)
With Nite feeling even bolder from the success of his plan, he took centre stage in the ring and recapped his recent scheme of setting up his former tag partner Tyler James as a stepping stone to the MPW Provincial title. A brief interruption from an enraged Wild Child looked to lead to an intense brawl right there, but TJ made the announcement that he’s convinced the MPW management to add a no disqualification stipulation to their main event. Any scheme Nite has to hold onto his belt after tonight just got a lot harder.
#1 Contender match, MPW Heavyweight Championship
Massive Damage (with “Sexy” Samantha) vs. “Mr. Beefy Goodness” Vance Nevada (with “Vicious and Delicious” Melisha)
Between the crowd’s hostility and the look of playful armageddon in Massive Damage’s eyes, the Beefy Brawler appeared a little shaken at the start. Vance’s veteran instincts kicked in soon enough and a pro back suplex followed by a steady string of measured attacks put a little woozy glaze into the Tattooed Terminator’s eyes. But Massive Damage is a veteran’s veteran too, and even without clear heads both men proceeded to beat the snot out of each other, neither giving an inch.
Knowing how G.O.D. operates, it was a given that Mark Posey would find a way to interfere, and with Melisha keeping the refs eyes firmly on her, Posey took his initiative capturing Massive’s arms from the apron. Massive managed to power through the hold and duck Nevada’s double team clothesline, sending Vance colliding off of Posey and rebounding into a Massive Spear. With both G.O.D. members now caught in the corner at the mercy of Massive Damage, Bonecrusher ran in to try to make a save, but Massive sidestepped his bullrush splash which then careened into Vance and Posey. Samantha finally was able to chase Melisha away from the ref, but that gave Melisha an opening to get in the ring and throw an uppercut between Massive’s legs. The ref called for the bell as the ruffians pounded Massive with their numbers advantage, until Jack Hammer and his sledge chased the guys from the ring. But not before Samantha was able to get a few shots in on the delicious one. The match ended with more unquenched fire in all their bellies than can be released in one show.
Official match result: Vance Nevada Disqualified (Outside interference rule); Massive Damage is now #1 Contender for the MPW Heavyweight Championship
MPW Provincial Championship, No Disqualification
Nite (c) vs. “Wild Child” Tyler James
The main event was wild, just the way TJ likes it. Yet throughout you’d get the sense that Nite was just playing around. TJ executes a big back body drop? Nite would get up with a smirk. Rolling arm breaker? Nite would maneuver an escape and cunningly smile. Nite threw in a people’s elbow, and didn’t seem to care when TJ kicked out at 1. When Tyler telegraphed a dropdown slide, Nite laid a cocky boot in on Tyler’s skull. “Who’s the best wrestler you’ve ever seen?” Nite asks the question but already knows his answer. An impressive array of moves keeps TJ down but every pin attempt seems halfhearted. Tyler finds the guts to roll out of the way of a corkscrew moonsault, and to roll an attempted hip toss through to a converted stunner reversal. But his wild try at a sunset flip bomb over the ropes to the ringside floor was blocked when Nite locked his grip on the rope. TJ tried to compensate with a top turnbuckle cross body splash but Nite caught him in midair with a dropkick square to the face. Nite’s signature butterfly ddt only got a two-and-a-half, and Nite’s casual attitude started showing signs of cracking to frustration. A desparate enzuguiri gave Nite a few clean seconds to pull a table out from under the ring. TJ was able to clear out enough cobwebs to catch Nite halfway up the turnbuckle, and a double back suplex onto the table resulted in a double ko. However, with Nite laying slightly on top of TJ, the ref made the final count.
Official match result: Nite def. Tyler James via pinfall; Nite retains the MPW Provincial Championship
